Golden Eagles open season with impressive 107-65 victory over El Camino

Career win No. 1 for new head coach Jovan Joe is in the books. In their 2021-22 season opener on Thursday, Joe and his West Hills College Lemoore men's basketball team soared to a 107-65 win over visiting El Camino College.

West Hills stormed out to a 52-25 lead at halftime over the Warriors and were never challenged. The Golden Eagles sank 14 three-pointers in the contest and shot 38 for 64 (59 percent) for the game.

Five Golden Eagles scored in double-figures. Leading the way was Milton Burnett and his team-high 19 points. Burnett, who played the 2019-20 season at College of the Sequoias, added six assists, five rebounds, and three steals in his West Hills debut.

DaMari Tate added 18 points, five rebounds, and five assists while Mack Tarver Jr. posted 17 points, four rebounds, and four assists. D'Andre Scott (12 points) and Alex Olukoya (11 points) contributed off the bench while Camron Wilson nearly had a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.

West Hills Lemoore dedicated the victory to former head coach Donnye Ross who passed away in 2020 after a brave battle with cancer.

The Golden Eagles will look to win consecutive games when they travel to Bakersfield College next Thursday (Nov. 11) for a 6 p.m. non-conference game.
