Urbieta takes first, Golden Eagles finish fourth at Modesto Invitational
MODESTO – Led by an impressive first-place finish by sophomore Gio Urbieta, the Lemoore College wrestling team totaled 87 points to finish in fourth place out of 12 teams at the Modesto Invitational on Saturday.
Urbieta went a perfect 4-0 at the tournament, winning three matches by fall. In the 133-pound championship final, Urbieta pinned Cervado Tapia of Mt. San Antonio College at the 6:14 mark.
Lemoore had a total of six wrestlers placing among the top-six at the event:
125 – Jason McDonald, 5th place
133 – Gio Urbieta, 1st place
165 – Joey Clark, 5th place
184 – Robert Felipe, 5th place
197 – Juan Pablo, 6th place
285 – Xavier Moran, 6th place
Lemoore is back in action next Saturday (Oct. 12) when the Golden Eagles host Victor Valley and Modesto in dual matches at Golden Eagle Arena. The action is schedule to begin at 4 p.m.
