LEMOORE – Freshman Bailee Goforth knocked in her third goal in two games but visiting Allan Hancock College spoiled Lemoore College's home opener by defeating the Golden Eagles 2-1 on Tuesday.
Allan Hancock's Zorah Coulibaly scored twice, giving the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute and made it a two-goal game with her tally in the 53rd.
Goforth cut the lead in half, scoring off the assist from Madison Ramirez in the 84th minute to give the Golden Eagles hope. But Lemoore ran out of time while trying to secure the equalizer.
Lemoore goalkeeper Dennise Beltran did all she could to keep her squad in the contest. Beltran had a huge game, coming up with 16 saves against a strong Allan Hancock attack.
"It was a tough loss to a strong opponent," said Lemore head coach Francisco Hernandez. "We fought hard for 90 minutes but came up short late in the game."
Lemoore's overall record is now 1-1. The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday (Aug. 30) when they travel to Cuesta College for a 4 p.m. non-conference game.
