2019-20 CCCAA Scholar Athlete Awards List

Former West Hills College Lemoore women's basketball standout Alejandra Fernandez was recently named to the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) 2019-20 Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll for her achievements on and off the court.

She joins a list of 17 outstanding individuals and 21 teams that will be recognized by the CCCAA with scholar awards at its annual convention that will be held virtually this year on March 31.

In December, Fernandez was also named the Central Valley Conference Female Scholar Athlete of the Year which allowed her to be moved on for state consideration.

"We are all incredibly proud of Alejandra earning this recognition," said Andrea Picchi, Associate Dean of Athletics and Kinesiology and women's basketball head coach.  "Her hard work and determination created many opportunities academically and athletically. It is always rewarding to see our students reach their goals. Alejandra is a great representation of the student-athletes here at West Hills College Lemoore."

Originally out of Corcoran High School, Fernandez compiled a 3.79 grade point average during her sophomore season for the Golden Eagles. On the basketball court, she averaged 11.7 points and 9.4 rebounds per game on her way to second-team All-Central Valley Conference honors.

Fernandez received an Associates of Arts Degree in Administrative Justice and an Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts-Social Science from WHCL. Currently, she is attending Hawaii Pacific University on a basketball scholarship and is in the middle of her junior season. After graduation she plans on obtaining her master's degree in criminal justice and will pursue a career in law enforcement.
