West Hills finishes third at NorCal Regionals, qualify seven for state championships

Led by first-place individual showings by Lupe Ayon and Angel Solis, West Hills College Lemoore totaled 128 team points to finish in third place at the 2021 Northern California Regional Championships. The event was held on Saturday at Sierra College in Rocklin.

The Golden Eagles placed five individuals among the regions top-three and qualified seven for the upcoming California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championships.

Ayon won the NorCal championship at 149 pounds, defeating Sacramento City College's Alfredo Mendoza by a 9-0 major decision in the final.

Solis was victorious at the 197-pound division and beat Sacramento City's Steven Karas 3-1 in final for the NorCal title.

Finishing second at the NorCal finals were Justin Tripp at 184 pounds and Taven Avila at 285. Wayne Joint was third at 141, Armando Martinez took fifth at 125, and Landen Cabeja finished sixth at 157. They will all compete at CCCAA State Championships on Dec. 10-11 at Cerritos College in Norwalk.
